16x Faster, Hands-free, Eyes-free Diet Tracking on desktops (Windows/MacOS)
Today’s desktop Myfitnesspal version requires the user to open up myfitnesspal.com, click “Add Food”, click on the Search Bar, type in the food into the search bar, click on the intended food item, clicks on the quantity text field, type in the amount, confirm, and repeat for every item consumed. It’s a tedious hassle that requires, on average, 21.43 seconds of undivided attention for each item. There’s a way to move this dietary tracking process one step closer to an effortless, hassle-free ideal: one that’s 16x faster than the current method, hands-free, and eyes-free!
- To setup the desktop version, you’ll first need the mobile version setup: Voice Control Over Myfitnesspal (Mobile)
- In Google Chrome, download and install the Autovoice Chrome Extension.
- Right click on the Autovoice Chrome Extension and select Options. You should be able to link the extension with your Google Account – use the same account that’s on your phone. Check the box under “Always Listening” and specify your Wakeup Expression – mine is “jarvis” since it’s one that Google Voice Assistant can easily detect and because it’s cooly reminiscent of Iron Man.
- Open up the Settings app on your mobile phone and navigate to “Apps”. Click on AutoVoice and then Permissions and make sure the permission is turned on for Contacts.
Open the actual Autovoice app, click on Devices, then add your Google account.
You should be able to say “jarvis” to your desktop while Chrome is open, wait for the Autovoice extension to respond, verbally say “track 1.5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil” and your phone will automatically log the item.
